FROM STAFF REPORTS—-

TRAVERSE CITY — A local fitness center will host a seminar on health, weight loss and success.

“How to Make 2010 Your Healthiest and Best Year Ever” is tonight, April 29, beginning at 5 p.m. at Fit For You Health Club, 1226 S. Garfield Ave.

The event is also a fundraiser for Special Olympics.

There will be experts on nutrition, weight loss, fitness and personal care. Admission is a $10 donation.

Among the tips from Fit For You are:

– Define — or redefine — your weight loss and fitness goals. List your motivations (health, confidence, role model, attractiveness) and tape them to the bathroom mirror or refrigerator.

– Find your starting point. Take baseline measurements of your weight, blood pressure, body fat percentage, body mass index, resting heart rate and the circumference of your waist, hips, arms and thighs. Take a picture in your bathing suit or exercise clothes. (This picture may be the biggest motivator, so don’t be shy.) Then use the data as a motivation.

– Design the right program. Address your specific needs.

– Celebrate daily victories: It may be as simple as walking up the stairs instead of taking the elevator, or replacing the fast food breakfast with oatmeal and a banana. Don’t let a day pass without a celebration.

– Regularly reassess and reward. Measure your progress each Saturday. If you were disciplined, you’ll notice changes and you can reward yourself with a treat on Sunday.
