Perricone Diet Plan
The Perricone Diet plan (also called the “anti-wrinkle diet) is more than just eating healthy it’s also about anti-aging. Dermatologist Nicholas Periccone MD author of five books on dieting approaches a new concept of dieting within a three-tier program: diet, supplements and topical creams. He believes that certain foods cause inflammation and water retention, which can lead to premature aging, obesity and other health issues.
This diet plan recommends five meals a day: breakfast, lunch, dinner with the addition of two snacks in between meals. This plan suggests you eat plentiful from a list of “superfoods” and to partake of your protein before you eat any carbohydrates. First thing you do after you wake up in the morning is to drink 8 to 10 ounces of spring water before breakfast.
Foods that are considered anti-inflammatory and staples of this diet plan are: salmon, blueberries, tuna, mackerel, herring, snapper, broccoli, peaches, kiwi fruit and spinach. Cold-water fish loaded with omega-3 fatty acids are more effective than taking omega-3 supplements. The other beneficial properties in cold-water fish are coenzyme Q-10 and DMAE which work together with the omega-3 to create a perfect balance thereby assisting in the anti-again process.
This diet plan is more restrictive than most as it has a long list of foods to avoid that cause inflammation such as alcohol, breads (French baguettes and croissants), flour, popcorn, butter, coffee, breakfast cereals, granola, duck, beef, fruit juices, certain fruits (bananas, grapes, mangos, oranges, papaya, raisins, watermelon), certain vegetables (carrots, corn, peas, potatoes, pumpkin), pasta, noodles, pizza, pickles, rice, all sodas, sugar and hard cheeses.
Foods encouraged in your weekly menu in this diet plan include wild Alaskan salmon (organic is fine but never farm-raised), tuna, shellfish, halibut, trout, cod, shellfish, sole, flounder, swordfish, turkey, eggs, yogurt, low-fat milk, tofu, cottage cheese, olive oil, leafy greens, bean sprouts, broccoli, asparagus, mushrooms, peppers, tomatoes, blue berries, apples, cantaloupe, kiwi, cherries, pears, honey dew melon, nectarines, peaches, avocados, olives, whole barley, beans, oatmeal, nuts, green tea, spices (oregano, ginger, cayenne pepper, basil) and drink spring water 8 to 10 glasses a day.
Super foods in this diet plan are Acai berry, the allium family (onions, garlic, leeks), barley, greens (blue-green algae, wheat grass, barley grass), buckwheat, seed, beans, lentils, hot peppers, nuts, seeds, sprouts and yogurt.
The Perricone Diet plan recommends taking 25 supplements ore more daily with breakfast and lunch. These vitamins and supplements support weight management, energy and mood, healthy and beautiful skin plus overall health care.
The topical creams and lotions assist with acne, redness, eyes, discoloration and skin damage, dry and sensitive skin, enlarged pores, instant facelift, lines and wrinkles as well as loss of elasticity. It’ also recommended to exercise 20-30 minutes. This diet plan regime is geared to decrease inflammation in every organ system, improve your metabolism, lift your outlook on life, make your heart resistant to disease, decrease the risk of cancer by eliminating unrefined foods in your diet, improve bone density, repair the skin damage, rejuvenate your immune system and possibly help you lose weight over time. The goal is to look younger and live longer.
